The Hunchback of Notre Dame is based on the 1831 novel by Victor Hugo with songs from the 1996 Walt Disney Animation Studios. Inspired by the universal desire to fit in, this musical tells the story of Quasimodo, a young man taught to hide himself and his differences away in the bell towers of Notre Dame. As he ventures into the world and falls in love, the audience sees his world expand. Set in a time period of great change, determinism, revolution and social strife, this story concludes that love and kindness are the most important shared human traits.
Directed by Julie Gabel, this large production boasts a cast, choir, and crew of over 70 talented local artists and creatives. Gabel has a successful tenure in theatrical arts: acting, directing, and designing to name a few. She most recently directed The Little Mermaid at Arts Live Theatre and Into the Woods at the former Arts Center of the Ozarks. Shiloh Jones, musical director, has over twenty years experience teaching choral music in public schools and lends her talents with groups like SoNA, NAMTA (Northwest Arkansas Music Teachers Association), and many community theater productions. The leading role of Quasimodo will be played by Aaron Young, who recently starred as Gabe in Next to Normal at 214 and Davey in Newsies at Arkansas Public Theatre.
Arts One Presents is proud to announce they will be working with local organizations to offer equitable access to differently-abled individuals to attend this production. Arts One Presents will also offer a showing of The Hunchback of Notre Dame with ASL interpretation.
Leading the charge with engaging community art activations throughout Northwest Arkansas, recently rebranded Arts One Presents is making an impact through multiple artistic mediums. Check out this show as well as other recently revealed murals and works placed throughout our community.
