Examining the Seams:
a small sample of textile craft-informed art in the Arkansas Ozarks
IN CONJUNCTION WITH:
A COMPANION EXHIBIT ON THE INTERSECTION OF FIBER CRAFT AND ART IN THE CONTEMPORARY OZARKS
May 13-June 24, 2023
Shiloh Museum of Ozark History
Springdale, Arkansas
In line with the mission and vision of Arts One Presents: to empower artists and engage communities through accessible and inclusive visual and performing arts experiences, The Springdale Barn Quilt Project has collaborated with the Ozark Home: Places, Memories, Practices exhibit at Shiloh Museum of Ozark History. This project’s celebration of crafting and communities, which are integral to Springdale’s vibrant culture of today and its past, is a perfect connection to Ozark Home, which foregrounds a merging of craft and textile art, tradition, and 2023.
The works in this exhibition highlight intergenerational and -cultural Ozark makers who move between textile craft’s prioritized function and art’s concept-following form. Their original techniques or visual qualities harken back to a former era but gracefully remain acutely relevant to today’s visual, popular, and political culture.
